After 16 months of often-vocal feedback, we’ve assembled dozens of pages of bugfixes and balance changes for the final 1.0 release. Now we need to shift our focus from taking in new feedback to typesetting and merging 1.0 balance changes. Since this part of the process doesn’t really involve me, I’m here to announce that the Legend System’s first open beta is officially over. Keep playing Legend, keep enjoying yourselves, but at this time we’re locking down all content changes to release a game that we’re truly proud of.

Along with the rest of the Rule of Cool team, I’m extremely grateful for the insights and criticism the community has provided to make Legend a much, much better game than the original beta release 16 months ago. We hope that all of you will be back to download and play the 1.0 release.

Make of the cryptic title what you will.

New Errata, New Incentives

First of all, thank you all for your donations. We hit the $12,000 mark a couple days ago, and the numbers are still going up. That’s pretty cool.

Second, we have integrated the newest errata into the Legend PDF. This errata cleared up some imbalances and bad interactions in the Rage, Undead, and Utter Brute tracks, as well as clarifying some things in the Scene rules, the glossary, and the item rules. Download the PDF to catch up!

Finally, we’ve decided on new donation bonuses for the $11,000 and $12,000 dollar marks. For the $11,000 bonus content, expect a set of new feats and spells for the magically-inclined! For the $12,000 bonus content, we are releasing a new track for characters who just like to hit people with swords. A lot of you have been requesting one or both of these things, so we’ll release them as soon as possible.

As a pleasant side bonus, you no longer need to right-click on the download button in order to download the PDF – the download dialog window will appear as the default action.

Thank-yous and announcements

First off, we’re over $4,300 now and an incredible 4000+ downloads. You contributors are incredible. All of us here are super excited and very grateful; thank you so much.

Second, we’ve seen some recurring questions in the comments, in discussion threads on various forums, and in other places. I’d like to address those questions.

Will Legend be available in a dead-tree/hard-copy format?

We’d love it to be. However, the costs for a paper edition are fairly high, and our deal with Child’s Play has them receiving all of the proceeds from sales for the Legend core book. It’s likely going to be a while before we can fund something like a paper edition of Legend.

Where are monster statblocks? Building monsters from scratch sounds like a lot of work.

Monster statblocks, along with a great many new racial tracks, will be in an upcoming Legend supplement. Keep checking the website for more information!

Will incentive DLC make it into a final version of the Legend PDF?

Absolutely. In a few cases, such as the elemental tracks, you can expect to see them incorporated into the Legend Monster Guide (or whatever we end up calling it).

Feel free to keep adding comments. We read them. Thank you so much!
