Highly Skilled Feat
« on: May 26, 2012, 02:54:56 PM »
Highly Skilled [Iconic]
Benefit: You become Trained in two additional skills of your choice. You also gain a +2 feat bonus to each of these skills.

It may be a little bit overpowered, my original idea was just Trained in two skills, but that seemed a little low for the bar that feats had set in Legend. I realize it's not as exciting as The Earth Cracks or Truly Bad People, but it seems useful to me. Thoughts?

Greater item: worry beads
give you 1 trained skill
can stack 2 of them

it takes a feat to get a greater item, and that feat requires another feat first. This would be over twice as powerful as that feat.

Not strictly more powerful, though. With the worry beads you can change which skill they train at some point (between each [Scene]?) by taking them off and putting them back on again. You can't do that with the feat.

You could probably get away with 1 skill and a +2 by making it a 12th level feat. Maybe not.

I'd probably make it scale with level (1 + 1 skill every 6 levels?) and make it [Iconic]. Just so you can make that Tactician that has every skill if you really want to.

I don't think there should be a way to make character with all skills trained, personally.

Is that really an issue? You can already get to 13/15 (Tactician + Aetherblooded + 2 Worry Beads), what's 2 more going to hurt?

In which I reveal that I have not read the magic items closely enough, clearly.

Making it an Iconic feat, takeable at 1st level, with 1 skill plus 1 for every 6 levels actually feels about right to me. Though it may need a cooler name then. Jack of all Trades? Dilettante? Experienced?

I vote for "Are You... Experienced?"

...wow it was hard to find a clear recording of that song.

Legend contributions: As Above, So Below (rewrite); Reap the Whirlwind, A Personal Touch, Kept Secret, Kept Safe (Professional Soldier); Combat Alchemist (extra track)

From design standpoint… Tactician already has bazillion skills (because of one of his tracks that is focused on knowledge skills), might as well allow others to have something unique.

Bear in mind that skills are very strong. Even an Iconic feat shouldn't be adding 4 trained skills.

The feat in the top post would probably be appropriate as an [Iconic], though.
Seven is the Number of Legend.

It's funny the balance things that switch between systems. I suppose it's because there's just so few skills in Legend compared to 3.5 or Pathfinder that each skill becomes relatively more powerful. I knew I had to retune my expectations for a new system (Breakneck Pace, if nothing else, is a good example of that), but it's still an ongoing process. Thanks for the feedback!
