Bane [Weapon] and Defiant [Armor/Shield]

Note: These enchantments are only appropriate for games in which Creature Type plays a major role, and enemies of several different creature types appear. If the PCs are always fighting Humanoids, or something like that, these enchantments are unbalanced and should not be used at all.

1-Point Enchantments

Bane [Weapon]
This weapon was crafted with a special hatred of certain foes.
Lesser/Greater/Relic/Artifact: Choose a creature type. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed. This item's item bonus is increased by two when attacking enemies of that type.

Defiant [Armor/Shield]
Some foes require special protection to face.
Lesser/Greater/Relic/Artifact: Choose a creature type. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed. When defending against attacks made by that type of enemy, this item's item bonus is increased by two if it is armor; or its deflection bonus is increased by two if it is a shield.

EDIT: They're not terribly original or creative, I'll admit, but then again neither is Masterwork or Resilient. I felt they seemed like reasonable additions to the Legend weapon roster, within appropriate campaigns, anyway.

Was hoping for a Damage or Damage reduction boost of your KOM/KDM on these enchantments so they wouldn't be so similar to Master Work.

I think the original is more elegant than these in general, but in particular, this version shouldn't allow Lesser versions of these items at all, since they'd be strictly inferior to a Masterwork enhancement at that point.

Ah, nice to see some 3.5 Ranger stuff, and they seem balanced enough.
As DJTooth mentioned, Damage-boosting/reducing versions of these would also be good.

Hmm. Energized grants 2 elemental damage for 1 point, so do you think 3 or 4 untyped damage against a specific foe for 1 point would be fair? As for DR, I'm less sure of a reasonable balance point for that. DR 2 for 1 point sounds like a decent guess to start, maybe with it automatically scaling to 3, 4 and 5 as you go up the tiers.

We could name them... hrm. Slayer and, I dunno, Bulwark?

EDIT: Energized scales, so Slayer would have to scale too. Same rate would be fine, though, either 3/6/9/12 or 4/8/12/16, depending, on which is more balanced.

I don't think 4 extra damage is too much, but 3 may be a safer bet (especially as it scales).
A naming suggestion for it: "Hunting"

A DR of 2, scaling up to 5, seems reasonable.

I suppose another option would to make it scale 4/6/8/10, so that it's always 2 points ahead of Energized, but still more specialized. I don't know how much better 10 damage is than 8 at Artifact tier, but it's a thought. Hunting is definitely not a bad name idea. I'm glad the scaling on Bulwark sounds good, though I'm less happy with the name there. Keeper, Sentinel, or Warden all seem closer to what I want, thank you, thesaurus.

Bear in mind that the main draw of Energized is that it triggers [Vulnerability].

No, it isn't. It may be updated at some point but it isn't 1.0-ready, which is why it isn't in 1.0. Anything that isn't in the 1.0 core rulebook should be treated as not being 1.0 compliant and used with caution if at all.

You could grant it a bonus on DCs with abilities using the weapon against the selected creature type.
Or cause the selected creature type to suffer a -1 to d20s on hit for 2 rounds stacking 1 per tier of the item to a max of -4 for Artifact.
