Shadow Incantation (feat)
« on: February 14, 2013, 09:13:08 AM »
Another random idea…

old version
Shadow Incantation

Your shadow is rather unusual. It does things for you.

Prerequisites: The Sun Grows Dim, Incantation track.

Benefit: By wrapping your body in the shadow of your mind you become more like shadow itself. You no longer take falling damage.*

At 5th level after successfully using Incantation if you have any eyes left from Prying Eyes you have cast with The Sun Grows Dim you can expend any number of them, up to the number of circles you have in Incantation track, as a swift action. If you do you move the target of your Incantation by 5 ft. x the number of eyes expended.** This movement does not provoke attack of opportunity.

At 10th level those eyes are more like balls of shadows rather than eyes and gain [Darkvision]. Your Prying Eyes spell-like ability is now an always on supernatural ability. Maximum number of those eyes you can have is 4 + your level. You start every [Encounter] with the maximum number of eyes (which can be hidden under or as your clothing if you so desire). By spending a move action you can recreate a number of eyes equal to your KOM up to your normal maximum.

You also can expend any number of eyes as a swift action to cause your next successful Incantation to cure (when healing) or inflict (when harming) a number of [HP reduction] equal to the number of eyes spent*** in addition to Incantation's normal effect. This cannot cure self-inflicted [HP reduction] however.****

* Should I drop this and add a level prerequisite instead?

** Fortitude save for half?

*** Too low?

**** Should I bother with this one or would that be too much bookkeeping?

Try #2.

Shadow Incantation

Your shadow is rather unusual. It does things for you.

Prerequisites: 12th level, The Sun Grows Dim, Incantation track.

Benefit: The eyes you create with Prying Eyes of The Sun Grows Dim are more like balls of shadows rather than eyes and gain [Darkvision]. Prying Eyes spell-like ability itself is now an always on supernatural ability. Maximum number of those eyes you can have is 4 + your level. You start every [Encounter] with the maximum number of eyes (which can be hidden under or as your clothing if you so desire). By spending a move action you can recreate a number of eyes equal to your KOM up to your normal maximum.

Once per [Round] after successfully using Incantation you can expend any number of those eyes, up to the number of circles you have in Incantation track, to produce one of the following effects as a free action:
  • Touch of ShadowSU: target of your Incantation is moved by 5 ft. x the number of eyes expended. Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 your level + your KOM) halves the movement distance. This movement does not provoke attack of opportunity.
  • Shadow ReaperSU: target of your harmful Incantation suffers a number of [HP reduction] equal to 3 x number of eyes spent.

Take out the hp reduction curing. hp reduction should never be cured, its entire point is being permanent within an encounter.
A swift to boost incantation conflicts with channeling spells. Granted, at low levels you probably can't afford to channel a spell every time, but it seems like an unnecessary action conflict, esp. since you seem to want them to spend move actions to recharge the ability at higher levels. Attach a save on movement, remove the swift action, and count the move action as the cost for sustained use. Though, only using circle eyes out of your level+1d4 eyes, you would have 3 uses for free.
This feat is doing a lot, I would recommend taking out the falling damage and adding in the level pre-req. This would make more sense as a higher level feat anyways.
A swift action for circle hp reduction is pretty weak.
below level 10, you can't afford to use this very often. Level 10 shifts it from a per [scene] resource to a per [encounter], and nearly at-will within that encounter. Thats quite a drastic jump.

Thanks, Mystify (^. ^)

I've posted 2nd version. Made [HP reduction] equal to 3 x number of eyes spent. It might be not THAT much but then again it is a 1/[Round] free action… Not sure here.
