Also, while I have no doubt that some of their criticism is accurate, and of course Legend is by no means perfect, there's a problem with tgmd where quite a lot of the posters worship anything Frank & K ever wrote, and criticize everything else simply for being something Frank & K didn't write.

Legend was originally balanced primarily through extensive, destructive testing: continuous attempts to break the system (and refining to prevent various breaks).

As a Just Blade and a Disciple of Serpent.....would I need to worry about my weapons? my fists would be my weapons with disciple of serpent and my grim heritor is my weapon from just blade. would I need any more?

For the first idea, full buy-in seems dicey to me. A melee character usually wants his items – particularly his weapon. Vigilante seems out of place there; I’d probably ditch it in favor of items. If I remember correctly, Disciple of the Serpent works well with Just Blade, and Just Blade works well with Fire Elementalist, but hopefully someone a little more optimization-minded can give a second opinion on that.

On the second idea, I’m pretty sure those tracks clash with one another, action-wise, quite a lot. As in, all of them want you to use your standard action casting their thing, so you can’t really use them at the same time. You may be better off sticking to one of them, and then getting a magic-support track like Incantation, Bag of Tricks, or Combat Alchemist.

The third... I’m not sure both Lich and Elementalist works particularly well, but I’m not read up enough on Just Blade to say that for sure.

In general, you want to avoid action conflicts in your tracks. Ideally, you a use for every action each turn, and you don’t have too many things that use the same action and you cannot use at the same time.

As for which element is best, they are intended to all be equal.

This is an acknowledged difficulty with Legend. That said, it does get easier as you get more familiar with the material. Also, very often you don't need to know or use all of a high-level creature's abilities: try posting the creature's stats, or hopping on the IRC channel, to discuss what strategies and tactics the creature would use. The upcoming Monster Book will have some tricks to help DMs, as well as pre-built monsters with stated tactics to alleviate some of the difficulties.

A220: That sentence could use some work; I wrote it originally and I couldn't figure it out until three or four passes.

Basically, the bit that says “as part of a Move action (including the one used to prime it)” does not apply solely to the bit about passing the Brew: it applies to each of those things you can do. So drinking a potion is a partial move, applying a poison is a partial move, or passing any brew is a partial move.

It's probably not legal to convert any modules officially, so Rule of Cool almost certainly won't do it. Fan-made conversions are still not legal though many companies (WotC included) typically turn a blind eye to that sort of thing.

Also, for future reference, using the point-buy scores isn't as minmaxy as it seems, as Legend tends to use EVERY score for something significant.
That contradicts every experience I have ever had with Legend. Legend rewards high scores but it's trivial to only use two, and Legend definitely does not punish low scores much at all.

I’d strongly consider Necromancer, Abhorsen-style. Make sure you get the optional Speak With Dead variant, for obvious reasons, but the rest of the track is really fitting too: you have spiritual allies and they both aid you (False Life, Protection from Death) and harm your enemies. The track also means skilled at handling misbehaving spirits (treat Undead as not-Undead for the purposes of negative energy damage, ignore immunity to negative energy damage), and so on.

I first heard about legend ages ago, can't quite remember where - probably over on Bay 12. At the time I didn't have a gaming group, and didn't until recently, when i finally decided to GM one.

We began on D&D 3.5, however, that campaign reached a premature end during a bank robbery that combined poor luck with even poorer decision making. Remembering legends, I proposed we begin campaign attempt #2 on Legend, and after a glance over the rules the players soon agreed - not surprising considering their chosen characters consisted of (in D&D): a barbarian/wizard, a fighter/medic (ie heal skill and alchemy), a rather familiar assassin, a druid/paladin (with a bit of rule breaking), and a CC specialist monk.

Probably not going to do much posting, unless hilarity to match the previous campaign ensues, but I'm here to lurk.
Hello and welcome! That, indeed, sounds like a group that would appreciate Legend’s superior multiclassing mechanics, as those combinations would work... not so well in 3.5  :P  Hope fun is had by all!

Exelixi, I do not think that you understand the problem.

The problem is not that people deserve True Symbol for free or something.

The problem is that True Symbol becomes the #1, first, top, always, must-have choice for Relic for a huge number of builds. As in you have to actively go out of your way to avoid needing it. That has been my experience. I have never made a Legend character that didn't want it ASAP, I have never played with a Legend character ASAP, and as I recall among the characters I saw for your game that allowed us to be Legendary, just about everyone used that to get a True Symbol early. Because it's that necessary.
