40 point buy
Starting level 6
2 Flaws allowed with DM approval

Characters of LA+0 without templates get to select an additional feat and can use racial gestalt if they so choose.

You may take up to a total of +5 level adjustment without penalty at a cost of 2 points out of your point buy per +1 LA. Additional level adjustment is not permitted; racial hit dice come out of your character levels on a 1:1 basis.

Undead templates must be cleared with me in advance.

This is not a combat-centric game, though there will be opportunities to throw down. Be warned: the nature of your character will have relevance on the Planes. If you have an aura of Good, expect to light up Hell's radar. If you're a fey on Mechanus, you might become ill or find your connection to Faerie is wobbly.

Languages

Language bonuses are circumstance bonuses applied when speaking a language understood by another, or dealing with a work written in that language. They are not an exhaustive list, but merely an example of utility. Most beings prefer their native tongue over another even if they can communicate in that other language. The benefits are not available under certain circumstances or when speaking to an otherwise-qualifying creature that does not know the language. Magical means of reproducing language do not confer these benefits as they are incapable of carrying nuance, shaded meaning, idiom and other key criteria that distinguish communication from conversation.

Spoiler
Major Languages
Abyssal
+2 language bonus on Intimidate and Gather Information checks against evil and chaotic beings
The primary language of the Abyss, also used in Pandemonium and Carceri, Abyssal is the tongue of the demons and a major Outer Planar language.

Aquan
+2 language bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against aquatic and water-elemental beings
The language of the marids, water elementals and other creatures with close ties to the Elemental Plane of Water. A major Inner Planar language.

Celestial
+2 language bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against good-aligned beings
The language of Mount Celestia and the lingua franca of the Upper Planes, Celestial is the tongue used by celestials of all stripes and a major Outer Planar language.

Common (Planar)
The ultimate trade tongue, a master creole of the common tongues of a thousand worlds and space besides. It seems like after a month or so just about everyone who speaks a common tongue speaks this common tongue. If someone claims not to understand you when you speak it, they're either truly backwater or messing with you. A major Outer Planar language.

Draconic
+2 language bonus on Spellcraft checks dealing with spoken or written materials, no penalty when speaking to dragons
Claimed to be the language of magic itself, Draconic is the fundamental and ancient speech of the god Io to his descendants, the dragon gods and all of dragonkind. Considered a prestige language among many reptilian races, its use is otherwise rare on the Planes.

Druidic
+4 language bonus on Diplomacy checks against druids and on Spellcraft checks involving druidic magic with spoken or written components
The private shibboleth of the wild masters, the Druidic tongue is a secret and forbidden language used only among the druids whose teaching to nondruids is prohibited.

Dwarven (True)
+1 language bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against dwarves
The pure form of the Dwarven tongue handed down from Moradin himself, true Dwarven tends to assimilate and replace all other Dwarven dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Elven (True)
+1 language bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against elves
The pure form of the Elven tongue handed down from Corellon Larethian himself, true Elven tends to assimilate and replace all other Elven dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Giant
+2 language bonus on Diplomacy and Intimidate checks against giants
The language of the true giants as well as those races that mimic their cultures, Giant is a solid and straightforward tongue that evolves little across various worlds. A major Material Plane language.

Gnome (True)
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Diplomacy checks against gnomes
The pure form of the Gnome tongue handed down from Garl Glittergold himself, true Gnome tends to assimilate and replace all other Gnome dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Goblin (True)
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Intimidate checks against goblins
The pure form of the Goblin tongue handed down from Maglubiyet himself, true Goblin tends to assimilate and replace all other Goblin dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Halfling (True)
+1 language bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against halflings
The pure form of the Halfling tongue handed down from Yondalla herself, true Halfling tends to assimilate and replace all other Halfling dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Ignan
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Intimidate checks against fire-elemental beings
The language of the efreet, fire elementals and other creatures with close ties to the Elemental Plane of Fire. A major Inner Planar language.

Infernal
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Diplomacy checks against evil and lawful beings
The primary language of Baator, also used in Acheron and Gehenna, Infernal is the tongue of the devils and a major Outer Planar language.

Orc (True)
+1 language bonus on Bluff, Gather Information and Intimidate checks against orcs
The pure form of the Orc tongue handed down from Gruumsh himself, true Orc tends to assimilate and replace all other Orc dialects in planar use. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Sylvan
+2 language bonus on Survival checks made in a fey's territory and on Diplomacy checks against fey and sylvan beings
The Sylvan tongue is thought to derive from the ethereal music of the Realm of Faerie itself, the wind in the leaves and the ripples of the brook in tandem with the singing of the twilight stars. It is the chief tongue of the fey and creatures of the woodlands. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Terran
+2 language bonus on Diplomacy and Intimidate checks against earth-elemental beings
The language of the dao, earth elementals and other creatures with close ties to the Elemental Plane of Earth. A major Inner Planar language.

Undercommon
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Gather Information checks against subterranean non-earth elemental beings
The lingua franca of the empires of darkness, Undercommon is employed by rogues and criminals but is most commonly used by drow, svirfneblin, mind flayers and other creatures of the world under the earth. A minor Outer Planar language and major Material Plane language.

Minor Languages
Eladric
+2 language bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy and Intimidate checks against good and chaotic beings
The secondary language of Arborea, Eladric is the high tongue of the eladrins and rarely used except in their courts, as archons insist on Celestial. A minor Outer Planar language.

Modron
+4 language bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks against modrons and a grateful nod from anyone else having to deal with them
The primary language of the modrons and their allies, a confusing and Byzantine tongue of endless checks and balances. A minor Outer Planar language.

Nirvanic
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Diplomacy checks against lawful beings
The major language of Mechanus outside of the modrons' sphere of control, also widely employed on Arcadia and Acheron. A minor Outer Planar language.

Slaad
+4 language bonus on Gather Information and Intimidate checks against slaad and a grateful nod from anyone else having to deal with them
The primary "language" of the slaad, a noisy and as-literal-as-possible interpretation of the phrase "say what you mean." A minor Outer Planar language.

Xaosh
+2 language bonus on Bluff and Intimidate checks against chaotic beings
The major language of Limbo for non-slaad, also used sparingly on Ysgard and Pandemonium. A minor Outer Planar language.

Yugoloth
+4 language bonus on Bluff and Intimidate checks against yugoloths and +2 language bonus on same checks against other evil creatures
The major language of the yugoloths, usually passed over in favor of Infernal or Abyssal but capable of expressing much deeper malice and purpose; said to be very close to Dark Speech. A minor Outer Planar language.

All other languages
Languages which share a name with one of the above are appended a descriptor matching their world of origin (for example, Common (Faerun)) and apply greater benefits to speakers of that specific dialect at the expense of those benefits (though communication is still possible) with speakers of different dialects. Languages not featured above may be selected provided a source is given. Some other notable languages include Demodand (the gehreleth language), Gith, O'orrax (beholder language), Qualith (illithid language), Rilmani (the planar language of neutrality), Scro (space orc language) and Shou (the language of the Shou Lung empire of Kara Tur) although there are others.

So, moment of truth: what's the preference of the first two, Cathexis or Fair Trial?

Demonize D&D much?

"Demonize?" I think you're overdramatizing. D&D is referenced three times by my count, twice with rather neutral comparisons and once in reference to Mystic Theurge, which D&D players acknowledge to be suboptimal (because it is).

I feel that this almost the sort of setting where everybody has two characters, since the astral and physical components are treated almost like separate characters.

The physical you would be a mook at best, hence the psychic battles. The only character you'd really need to build per se would be the psychic version.
