In light of Legend's current state of development stasis and the likelihood that planned future projects will not be released, we have decided to share with our fanbase the in-development tracks that were being worked on for the Monster Guide, as well as a few others from various developer projects.
These tracks are presented as-is; commenting is enabled on the documents, and we welcome any efforts to test and balance these tracks; however, we have no plans to officially publish them and we make no claims as to their play readiness or balance.
Without further ado:
AmorphousAn ooze-themed racial track rife with... amusing... circle names, Amorphous was a logical choice when planning out Monster Guide tracks, although its early draft came comparatively late in the active development cycle.
Cyberspace MastermindAn incredibly complex track originally conceived of for inclusion in the Magic Book. Has been making the rounds unofficially on IRC for some time.
DevilA racial track to complement Demon and Celestial, Devil was conceived for a never-developed module and then transitioned over to the Monster Guide queue.
Divine BeastA retool of the old Unicorn track from My Little Legend, Divine Beast was not ready to be put into the core rules. The Monster Guide was felt to be an appropriate place for it.
FeySeveral different approaches were proposed for a Fey track. This is the only one to have been reasonably fleshed out and reached the dev pass stage. Was scheduled to be included in the Monster Guide.
Force of NatureOne of the first post-beta tracks to be conceived, Force of Nature was originally scheduled to be a racial track for elementals, treants and similar entities.
IncorporealA design space the original alpha and beta did not endeavor to cover well, developers struggled with options for modeling Incorporeal. Unpolished and never settled, Incorporeal was one of the larger hurdles on the road to the Monster Guide, but it was ground we felt was worth covering.
Large and In ChargeThe second post-beta track to be conceived and the first to be executed, Large and In Charge (with a pending rename to Behemoth for inclusion in the Monster Guide) was originally intended to complement Dragon and Utter Brute.
None So VileOriginally planned as the Arthropod racial track, we decided that flavor was too narrow considering possible monster applications and renamed it accordingly. This track was intended for the Monster Guide.
PlantA popular request for a racial track for the Monster Guide, this one had a split early-late development cycle.
Show FighterIntended for inclusion in an upcoming Core revision, this track is popularly known as "Pancakes" among devs due to misreading of its original name and 1st circle.
Along with the above tracks, we are also releasing some developer projects that hadn't gotten the full go at the time they were suspended:
Ancient ConspiracyA draft of a possible structure for the proposed Ancient Conspiracy track intended for the Magic Book, assembled by Timeless Error toward the end of Legend's active development.
Black KnightA track proposed by Nohwl, not intended for any particular release but likely would have been on schedule to vie for the Fourth Book after review passes and balance checks. Did not leave draft status.
Boon CompanionA track by gkathellar, considered for inclusion in a proposed Druid class for the Magic Book.
"Mana"A track concept being experimented with by Nohwl as a proposal to consider for the Magic Book.
PolymorphA shapeshifting track by Nohwl, considered for inclusion in a proposed Druid class for the Magic Book.
Powered ArmorThe "orphaned" track, floated for an eventual Core revision, then for an undefined module, then as a bonus to be released on the site, questioned for the Monster Guide but rejected as off-theme, planned to move back to Core
again until its role and play space were questioned, and never actually scheduled for either the Magic Book (unlikely) or the Fourth Book. Possibly the most complete track to have been "lost" in this fashion.
Tracks which did not make it past concept or draft stages include:
• Ancient Conspiracy (Magic Book)
• Domino Effect (The Fourth Book)
• From The Future (The Fourth Book)
• General's Curriculum (The Fourth Book)
• Psionic tracks (Magic Book)
• Skald class tracks (Unscheduled/extra content)
• Symphonic Roar (The Fourth Book)
• Warlock class tracks (Magic Book)
Other MaterialsThe following are other in-development materials, developer projects, and fragmentary pieces from the archives.
New ConsumablesConsumables for monsters to use as part of their builds were being floated for the Monster Guide. The three consumables presented here were intended for the strongest monster in the Guide.
New FeatsStandard and Iconic feats proposed for the Monster Guide. A Slow Succumbing and To The Bone proposed for Gorgons; Antediluvian and Kneel Before Zod proposed for Opposer; Fast Talk proposed for Showmaster.
New Weapon PropertiesI put out a call for the devs to contribute new ideas for weapon properties, with the idea that we would add a small number (fewer than 10) to the game via the Monster Guide that would also help characterize monsters coming in. Few ideas were fleshed out past the concept and discard stage; those that got anywhere are listed here.
PsionicsA project started by Anzyr and Nohwl, psionics were intended for the Magic Book as one of the many kinds of magic that would be supported, complete with new feats and supporting rules. All material is available via linked documents.
Skald Scratch-WorkA tiny fragment of Legend history, the first hints of what was to be a track for the Skald, the lost 9th class. It's rumored that Runesong Scholar and Chirurgic Poet were the other two tracks planned for the class.
